Life@TheRobertSchumanCentre

Besides a vibrant academic community, the Robert Schuman Centre has a lot to offer to make life at the Institute and in the city of Florence even more pleasant.

Our Villas

The Robert Schuman Centre is located on the Tuscan hillside overlooking Florence. The heart of the centre is Villa Schifanoia, which was part of a large swathe of land including other villas and country houses in the area.

Most of our researchers and staff members have their offices in this beautiful building, where also many events organised by the Centre take place. In addition, the Schuman Centre extends to other villas spread throughout the area, including Casale, Villa Raimondi, Villa Malafrasca and Il Villino. This unique working environment invites to enjoy the beauty of Tuscan architecture, art and landscapes.

Schuman Gatherings

Special occasions must be celebrated appropriately and offer a platform for the Schuman community to gather. One example is the Schuman Welcome Drinks that take place each year in September to welcome newcomers and to kick off the new academic year.

These events offer a good opportunity to get to know other members of the Schuman community - academics and staff. Of course, partners and children are also very welcome. The same also applies to Christmas parties, Summer Drinks, and more.

Life@RSC for Family Members

The Schuman Centre is a place where everybody is welcome! For the youngest members of the EUI community, there is a dedicated crèche for academic and administrative staff. The crèche is located in the ‘Il Villino’ building and open Monday to Friday, between 8.15 and 18:00.

For those who do not participate in the academic activities of the Institute there is the possibility to join the EUI's Partners group that meets twice a month. The group organises different activities, exchanges of experiences and offers company.

Coppa Pavone

Schumaniacs Coppa Pavone 2019

Members of the Schuman community of course support the Schuman team, the 'Schumaniacs'!

Each year at beginning of June, the most important annual football event – the Coppa Pavone tournament – kicks off. For two weeks, different teams compete for the much sought-after victory. During this time, the area around the EUI football pitch, located right in front of the Schuman Centre’s Villa Schifanoia, transforms into a fan mile, where the EUI community comes to cheer and support their favourite team. Even Bar Fiasco moves its location for this time period, providing everybody with refreshing drinks and delicious burgers.
