A new transfer from the Council of the European Union has arrived in Florence from the Council’s Archives service along with their detailed inventories. The files concern the legal acts (Actes juridiques) in the form of regulations, directives and decisions of the Council that were adopted to respect the aims set out in the EEC treaties. The Council Archives Service has also sent a facsimile copy of the Maastricht Treaty, which will be on permanent display at the Historical Archives in Florence.
The new archival transfer is available directly online in digital format on the HAEU website, thus facilitating access to key documents on the decision-making processes in the European Communities in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Digital access to the Council archives will aid in protecting the original and unique paper documents by ensuring that they only leave the archival repositories in exceptional circumstances, such as exhibitions.
In all over 2,000 files for the years 1979, 1980 and 1981 have been listed and are now available in the online database of the Archives.
