Due to the Covid-19 crisis, the HAEU reading room is temporarily closed. During this period, consultation of archives and research can continue remotely, within certain limits, by consulting files that have been digitized and are available online, or by requesting the digitization of individual files.
Within the HAEU online database, a large amount of archival files from EU-institutional and private holdings preserved at the HAEU, are available in the form of digitized copies. These files can be consulted remotely, after user registration on the HAEU online database. The collections of digitized files are complemented by more than 600 oral history interviews of (former) EU officials and European politicians.
A total of 47.266 digital text files and 12.007 digital images from 56 archival holdings can be freely consulted online. The individual registration as user allows for login, search, consultation and download of digital material from any device and location worldwide.
To facilitate remote access to the HAEU archival holdings and support the continuity of user services, an overview of the online available material is given below, distinguishing between EU-institutional holdings, fonds deposited by corporate bodies, private papers from individuals, and archival collections.
Users should keep in mind that the overview is not exhaustive and includes archival fonds that are entirely or partially available in digitized format. If you are looking specifically for digitized material, please use the advanced search page and use the filter Digital or Digitised Available Online’. Within the online database, all holdings containing digital material have a PDF icon next to the title of the holding.
To request the digitization of individual files for remote consultation, please send an email to [email protected] . The HAEU cannot guarantee an immediate service; the digitization depends on the workload and the provisions in the respective deposit agreements.
Follow the links to browse the inventories, search the database and consult the oral history holdings.
As pandemic conditions change, the above information might become out of date. We invite you to consult the HAEU Services for Users web page for the most up-to-date information on accessing the Archives.
