Datastream is a global financial and macroeconomic time-series database, providing data on equities, stock market indices, currencies, company fundamentals, fixed income securities and key economic indicators for 175 countries and 60 markets. Equity data from IPO to present is updated daily. Macroeconomic time series are monthly, quarterly and annual - with up to 60 years of coverage.
Datastream is accessed directly from Excel on EUI desktops:
- Open Excel on an EUI desktop computer
- Click on the 'Refinitiv Datastream' tab in the Excel top-bar
- Click on the red icon (upper right) which turns green.
NOTE: If the icon does not turn green, go to:
- Programs
- Microsoft Configuration Manager
- Software Center
- Launch 'Datastream Charting
- Credentials'
- Click 'Install' or 'Reinstall'
- The red icon should turn green.
- If the issue persists, write to [email protected] and [email protected]
- At the upper left of the Excel top-bar; click either 'Time Series Request' or 'Static Request'
- The search panel opens
- Use the 'Series/List' field or the 'Datatypes/Expressions' field in the search panel to retrieve data series
- Click 'Submit' to populate the Excel file
- Idle sessions are timed out after 15 minutes (not applied to running downloads).
Datastream is published by LSEG Data & Analytics, a subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange Group.
- Equity data is available from the date of initial public offering (IPO) to present, updated daily
- Macro time series in the 'Economics' section are monthly, quarterly and annual - with up to 60 years' coverage.

The following desktops have Datastream Excel add-in access:
- All researcher room desktops in the Economics Department (Villa La Fonte)
- 8 desktops on the garden floor (left side) of the Badia Library
- 3 desktops in the LIB 338-650 room on the first floor, Badia Library
- 7 desktops in the EDC/Law area, upper floor, Badia Library, and one machine in the law reading room

To access data series:
- Open Excel

Factiva (Dow Jones) is a digital archive of global news content covering 18,000 sources from 159 countries. The platform also hosts the Factiva Companies & Markets database, providing five years of headline economic data. Users of Factiva can locate, elaborate and export data on single companies, or a selection of companies, by peer group. The Global Financial Database (GFD Inc.) provides long-range historical financial data on stocks, bonds, bills and other instruments, covering approximately 200 countries from the early modern period to the present. EUI members can create an account by following the instructions at How to access data. The GFD platform is called 'Finaeon.' Data series are assigned nine metadata descriptors: Series ID; Description; Start date; End date/most recent; Periodicity; Country/territory; Currency; Series type (eg. government bond yields) and GFD sector designation (eg. equity). Orbis Europe (Moody's Analytics) is a database of comparable financial and business information on Europe's largest 600,000 public and private companies by total assets. 43 countries are covered. Orbis Europe is published by Moody's Analytics (formerly published by Bureau van Dijk as 'Amadeus'). The database provides standardised annual accounts (consolidated and unconsolidated), financial ratios, sectoral activities and ownership data.
