Our mission

We make sense of the evolving relationship between Artificial Intelligence and Democracy.

While there is currently little knowledge about what a future technological environment based on robotisation, digitalisation and automation will look like, the Chair on Artificial Intelligence and Democracy rigorously studies the potential impact of these technologies on democratic politics.

Chair on AI & Democracy’s Annual Lecture 2025

We welcome Professor John Tasioulas (University of Oxford) to deliver the Chair on Artificial Intelligence and Democracy’s Annual Lecture 2025.

Artificial Intelligence and Democracy: From Threat to Promise?

Much of the current discussion on AI and its impact on democracy is understandably negative in character. Indeed, discussions on how AI worsens political polarisation, spreads misinformation and disinformation, and increases economic inequality – issues that pose significant challenges to democratic culture – are numerous.
In his lecture, Professor Tasioulas will offer a more optimistic perspective, arguing that the roots of democratic struggles extend beyond the risks posed by AI. He will explore how, when responsibly developed and applied, AI has the potential to renew democratic systems at a time when public trust in democratic governance is alarmingly low.
