In 2005, following the death of the former EUI Professor Mauro Cappelletti, Robert and Mimie Helm, an alumnus and former student of the late Professor Cappelletti and his wife, generously decided to commemorate the great legal scholar with an annual prize of € 3.000 for a five-year period. This year, the period has been prolonged for another four years.
The prize is awarded for the best comparative law doctoral thesis each year at the EUI.
This year, the prize was awarded for the sixth time, to Joana Mendes. The previous winners were Florian Hoffmann in 2005, Nelius Carey in 2006, Eva Storskrubb in 2007, Annelies Verstichel in 2008 and, in 2009 exceptionally both Kathrin Scherr and Silvia D’Ascoli.
