On 2 June, Nikoleta Yordanova (Department of Political and Social Sciences) was awarded the 2011 François Mény Prize in recognition of the best comparative thesis on Political Institutions to be defended at the EUI between 1 May and 31 December 2010.
The thesis, entitled "Legislative Organization of the European Parliament: the Role of Committees", marks a substantial contribution not only to the literature on parliaments in general and the European Parliament in particular, but also to the understanding of the democratic deficit in Europe and how it might be tackled.
Nikoleta has also won the European Union Studies Association (EUSA) Prize for Best Dissertation in EU studies.
She is currently employed as a Research Fellow at the Sonderforschungsbereich (SFB) Center 'Political Economy of Reforms' at the University of Mannheim, Germany.
