Gaetano Martino, one of the earliest proponents of a ‘European University’, recognized that cultural cooperation was fundamental to freedom of education and to the development of a European consciousness. He saw in the shared cultural and historical heritage of the Old Continent the very foundations of European unity.
Martino’s distinctly European outlook, the challenges he encountered in promoting his vision of a fully-fledged European University, and the idea of European cultural integration are the subjects of the Conference ‘Gaetano Martino: La Visione Europea ed il Progetto di un’Università per l’Europa’.
The Conference will take place on 19 April at the Badia Fiesolana, Sala del Capitolo, at 10:00 – 12:30.
Panelists include Professors Angela Villani and Marcello Saija (University of Messina); Jean-Marie Palayret (Director of the Historical Archives of the European Union, EUI); Professor Antonio Varsori (University of Padova); and Professor Federico Romero (EUI).
The Conference will be held in Italian and will open with the screening of the film “Lo Spirito dell’Europa”, a documentary directed by Beppe Cino and produced by RAI International.
