Biography

Paul McDonough earned his PhD in 2016 from Trinity College, Dublin, for a thesis titled ‘Fundamentalism and international human rights in Islamic constitutions’.This represents one of his two main research interests, the other being the legal regimes governing refugees and asylum in the EU. The latter interest developed through working for organisations such as the European Council on Refugees and Exiles and UNHCR.During the Max Weber Fellowship, Paul will primarily develop his PhD thesis into a monograph and at least one journal article. Both will focus on the interactions between Islamic law and international law, particularly international human rights law.
