Biography

Andrés María Vicent holds a doctorate in Modern History from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. His research focuses on Legitimism as a transnational political culture. In a broader sense, he is interested in the global history of the Age of Revolutions, the making of Western political cultures, the cultural history of capitalism and the study of the Iberian world (politics, international relations, constitutional change and finances) in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, as a post-imperial period.

At the EUI, his research aims at developing his study of the legitimist world, focusing on its relationship with Romanticism and capitalism. He also intends to complete the edition of a transnational history of early Carlism based on his dissertation. His next project will focus on the convergence of humanitarianism and international finances in the long nineteenth century.

Andrés has enjoyed three funded academic stays at the EHESS, the Università La Sapienza and the Universität Wien. He spent the final year of his B.A. as an Erasmus student, at the Université de Genève. He has contributed to several research projects regarding State imaginaries, the nineteenth-century monarchy, the cultural history of credit and the transnational building of capitalism.

Expertise for Teaching and Mentoring of Ph.D. Researchers
During his time as a graduate student, Andrés fulfilled teaching tasks in a range of undergraduate courses. After completing his Ph.D., he also took part in graduate programmes as an invited speaker or teaching assistant.
