Biography

Farah Ramzy earned her Ph.D., with a thesis titled ‘Renegotiating Politics on campus: Students in Post-2011 Egypt’, in Political Sociology in October 2019 from Paris-Nanterre University and Lausanne University.

Her research experience includes a variety of themes: Contentious politics, repression and mobilization, politicization in authoritarian contexts, political socialization, political events, collective memory, sociology of higher education in the global south, youth policies, cooptation of youth, and social classes and socio-economic transformations in a shifting global economy.

Her target during the Max Weber Postdoctoral Fellowship is to expand on the last theme to study the trajectories of social mobility in a shifting global economy, namely the patterns of consumption, politicization and religious practices among young Egyptians from the upper middle class.

Farah has taught several courses in Middle East Studies (Comparative Politics of the MENA region, Women in the Middle East, Introduction to Arab and Islamic Civilization); Political Science Courses (Comparative Politics, Introduction to Political Science); and Introduction to Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methodology at Sciences Po Paris, Sciences Po Bordeaux and Cairo University.
