Biography

Eroll Kuhn received his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research examines the reception and integration of newcomers in receiving societies, with a focus on the ramifications of policies that govern the security challenges of migration. He is also interested in how migrant ethnicity and local demographic contexts in receiving societies shape integration of immigrants and political reactions of natives. His work has been published in the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies.

While conducting field work in Switzerland, he was a Visiting Scholar at the University of Zürich, a Graduate Fellow at the Immigration Policy Lab at ETH-Zürich, and a Visiting Fellow at the NCCR-On The Move at the University of Neuchâtel.

To address research questions, Eroll leverages inferential tools from public policy, political science, and sociology to identify causal effects using observational data. As a Max Weber Fellow, he will work towards publishing the remaining chapters of his dissertation as stand-alone articles, begin with extensions of these projects using a dataset he collected during fieldwork, and proceed with non-dissertation projects pertaining to how ethnic identity and local demographic contexts condition effects of immigration.

Eroll is an experienced teacher, having taught his own course in comparative politics four times and assisted for courses in international relations, causal inference, and machine learning.
