The European University Institute (EUI) and the University of Florence (UNIFI) have joined forces once again for a new online event exploring the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Europe.
‘L’Europa alla prova della pandemia: destino segnato o salto di qualità?’, will be a conversation between Federico Romero, Professor of Post-War European Cooperation and Integration at the EUI, and Giorgio Ricchiuti, Professor of Political Economy at the University of Florence. Moderated by EUI Max Weber Fellow Gaia Lott, the event will take place on Tuesday the 30th of June and will be shared from the UNIFI website. Viewers will be able to send questions via Whatsapp text message at the number + 39 347 5804905.
The session inaugurates a series of events called ‘La società che verrà. Conversazioni allo schermo’ [The society that will come. Conversations at the screen]. The series will look at the challenge posed to democracy in Europe by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The EUI and the University of Florence have a long history of shared collaboration. The planning of this online event was set in motion by the publication of a series of letters written by historian and Professor Zeffiro Ciuffoletti, the UNIFI Provost Luigi Dei and President of the EUI Renaud Dehousse. The Florentine newspaper Corriere Fiorentino published these letters in April, at the height of the Italian lock-down.
The opening addresses will be given by Professor Dei and Professor Dehousse. Sara Furnaro, Councilor for Education of the city of Florence, Enrico Rossi, President of the Region of Tuscany and Anna Ravoni, Mayor of Fiesole, will also address listeners.
