The Research Council

External advice to the Institute’s governing bodies on matters pertaining to research

The principal mission of the Research Council is to provide external advice to the Institute’s governing bodies on matters pertaining to research.

Its aim is to stimulate and maintain scientific excellence and strengthen the Institutes’ research through high-quality peer review. It discusses and formulates policy and strategy with a view to reinforcing the Institute’s profile to attract the best learners and academics at all career stages.

At its annual meeting, the Research Council decides on the resources to allocate to joint research initiatives submitted by EUI professors and periodically assesses the activities of academic units on a rotation basis.

Membership

The members of the Research Council are:

  • Six highly qualified persons from outside the lnstitute, appointed by the High Council on a duly motivated proposal from the Strategic Standing Committee. Their term of office shall be 5 years, not renewable.
  • Six highly qualified persons from outside the lnstitute, appointed by the Academic Council on a duly motivated proposal from the Principal in consultation with the Executive Committee. Their term of office shall be 5 years, not renewable.
  • The Principal (ex-ufficio).

The Research Council is chaired by one of its external members. After consultation with Research Council members, the Chair is appointed by the Principal for a period of 3 years renewable.
