No separate funding application is required.

The application for admission to the EUI doctoral programme is automatically an application for a national grant.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who are Irish nationals and resident in Ireland for at least 3 of the last five years are eligible to apply.

Candidates who hold dual nationality (of which one is Irish) and are resident in Ireland for at least 3 of the last 5 years are eligible to apply.

Candidates who are nationals of the EEA states (EU member states, Iceland, Norway & Liechtenstein) and Switzerland and have been resident in Ireland for a minimum of 5 years are eligible to apply.

Grants and Allowances

Monthly grant: 1,636 € (from January 2024)

Family allowance: Yes

Travel allowance: Yes

Insurance: Yes

The authority provides a monthly grant for the first three years of EUI Ph.D. Programme. The fourth year is covered by the EUI (2025 grant is 1.620 € per month, in addition to other allowances).
