Sex and gender are important aspects in Carletti’s travellogue. They are also connected to his view of religion and to reflections on the role of Christianity outside Europe. Can we speak of a ‘gendered’ lens in Carletti’s narrative? What was his relationship with other religions in Asia? How did religion shape his moral concerns? Speakers will bring their own knowledge and expertise to bear on the shaping of a conversation on different aspects of early modern global history, placing Carletti’s My Voyage Around the World at the centre. At each meeting three 10 minute informal presentations will be followed by an open discussion among participants. Please register in order to receive the ZOOM link. This workshops is in the framework of the Workshop series Carletti’s World: An Early Modern Global Voyage .
