Abstract of the lecture:In this lecture Dr. Buthelezi wants to trace how the COVID-19 pandemic is one of a series of historical and present occurrences/phenomena from which South Africa is trying simultaneously to recover – colonial and apartheid racialized inequality, anger over the disappointments of the 1994 political settlement, a decline in economic and state performance, and the compounding COVID-19 pandemic. This will lead him to a reflection on the prospects of recovery, taking as an example faltering moves to improve economic and state performance currently underway. The lecture will be held in Badia's Refettorio and Online (via Zoom).
