A documentary of Bart Staszewski and Nick Antipov on LGBT/queer participation in 2020 Belarusian protests.
In August 2020, large-scale protests erupted in Belarus against the dictatorship of Aliaksandr Lukashenka (in power since 1994). Grievances of protesters were multiple: some were dissatisfied with economic stagnation, others with mishandling of coronavirus crisis and misinformation on it; some were protesting against nuclear power station, others against the absence of unemployment benefits. LGBT and queer community was one of the visible parts of protests in August and September, and for a good cause, as the regime never misses an opportunity to assert its homophobia.
The screening of the documentary will be accompanied with remarks of Uladzimir Valodzin, HEC researcher who was in Minsk in August-December 2020, followed by a general discussion.
Due to limited capacity in the room please register with Uladzimir Valodzin.
