Lukas Stoetzer, Fernand Braudel Fellow at SPS, and Lennart Schulze, 3rd-year SPS researcher, try to address this question from two different angles. Over the last decades, German elections were a foregone conclusion as we all knew who the chancellor would be the day after. In this coming election the only certainty is that the chancellor will not anymore be the same. But who will then be the next chancellor of the country and which party will the government consist of? Lukas Stoetzer, Fernand Braudel Fellow at SPS, and Lennart Schulze, 3rd-year SPS researcher, try to address this question from two different angles. Lukas will show last-minute forecasts of the election while Lennart will explain how things ended up being so unpredictable. This is intended to be a lively discussion on a Friday afternoon about one of the most important elections to come for Europe’s future in the short- and mid-run.
