While most countries have enfranchised their citizens residing abroad in national elections, only very few have also allowed non-citizen immigrants to vote at the national level. A new GLOBALCIT dataset will allow to analyse global trends, patterns and conditions of migrants’ electoral rights in their countries of origin and settlement. In this webinar, we will present first results but will also discuss the normative question of whether national voting rights ought to be disconnected from citizenship status.
