In 2016, there was no longer any copyright for Mein Kampf, its author Adolf Hitler having died seventy years earlier. For the first time, it was legally possible to publish new editions of this infamous book, especially critical editions. Since then, such scientific editions have been released in Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and France. Florent Brayard, research professor at the Centre de recherches historiques de Paris (EHESS/CNRS) and Fernand Braudel Senior Fellow at the EUI, was responsible for this French critical edition, issued in 2021 in collaboration with the Munich Institut für Zeitgeschichte. He will present the many challenges he and his team of historians and Germanists have faced in this process.
