The conference will foster debate on the challenges and opportunities of the Metaverse, with the aim of identifying the emerging research topics associated with it.

Even though the realisation of the Metaverse is still far from being completed, many issues that already emerged with Web 2.0 will be amplified in the new immersive world of Web 3.0. The many challenges will be not only technological but also of legal and economic nature. Digital identities, ethical issues, content moderation, competition enforcement, data protection and privacy will surely be key topics to explore.

On the other hand, the evolution of the Metaverse requires a combination of digital technologies (such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality) that are still partly in the development phase.

During the event, participants will explore these technical issues and try to foresee which sectors (gaming, retail, education, and more) will be most likely the first to be affected.

The event is co-organised with the Baffi-Carefin Centre of Bocconi University.
