This workshop will tackle the European Union’s emergent industrial policy in the context of an increasing global geoeconomy

We live in a new era of industrial policy and geoeconomics among the great powers, one that is remaking domestic political configurations while reshaping the geopolitical landscape. The past few years have brought about a remarkable resurgence in overt market interventions around decarbonisation, technology, and national security, something that was largely taboo during the last three decades of neoliberal politics. This workshop centers on the European Union’s emergent industrial policy while situating it within the broader changes towards a more geopolitical global economy, taking stock of what we know, setting out a research agenda, and noting some of the key policy challenges it is creating.

This event is upon invitation only.

The workshop is organised in collaboration with the Global Political Economy Project and thanks to the contribution of The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation’s Economy and Society Initiative.
