Since the populist rise (especially in Central and Eastern Europe), scholars have focused on women's rights using terms such as "anti-gender mobilisation", "anti-gender movement", "gender equality policy backsliding", "gender backlash", or "anti-women backlash". These terms primarily refer to policies and rhetoric carried out by populists. However, there are more actors than just populist parties involved in restricting women's rights. These are, for example, the right-wing organisations that challenged women's rights before the Constitutional Courts - particularly reproductive rights and freedom from violence.
During the seminar, panellists will answer the following questions:
1. What is the role of right-wing legal mobilisation in restricting women's rights?
2. What is the effect of abortion rulings on other EU countries?
3. What is (and might be) the impact of the US Supreme Court Dobbs v. Jackson ruling for women's rights in the EU?
All interested fellows, PhD researchers, professors, and visiting academics are invited to participate.
The event is hybrid, you can also attend via ZOOM.
