Perhaps nowhere else is the lack of women in economics more apparent than in central banks. But why is this the case? And how do we approach this challenge? In a previous
ECB working paper (Hospido et al., 2019), the career advancement of men and women at the ECB between 2003 and 2017 was analysed using confidential, anonymized professional staff personnel data.
Luc Laeven, Director General of the ECB Research Division and co-author of this paper, will present the key explanations for this issue and discuss these explanations and their policy implications with
Margarita Delgado, Deputy Governor of the Banco de España. The event will be chaired by
Elena Carletti, Professor of Finance at Bocconi University and founding director of the Florence School of Banking and Finance.
