Adaptation to climate change is a major challenge for European cities, many of which are at coastal locations and all of which are subject to extreme weather events. Cities are also living labs for innovation, and are seeking solutions for research, policy and investment. They play an important role in the EU Adaptation Mission, and significant volumes of funding are available via EU funds, national resources, and financing from lenders such as the EIB.
The conference will bring together practitioners and experts in climate change and the expected consequences for Europe, as well as city managers from across Europe who are responsible for planning and investments in adaptation in their cities.
Adaptation has become an important focus for JASPERS advice to cities. At the same time, the EUI recognises a need for greater research and innovation in this area, given that the overwhelming focus of research is on climate mitigation rather than adaptation and resilience. EUI and JASPERS are therefore pleased to collaborate on this conference bringing together research and emerging best climate adaptation practice in the city context.
The conference is jointly organized by the Florence School of Transnational Governance in cooperation with JASPERS and the European Investment Bank.
