Il Moro ('the Moor') is a short historical film (2021) about the life of Alessandro de’ Medici, the first Duke of Florence who was born to an illegitimate relation between Pope Clement VII and an African woman. The film, written and directed by Daphne Di Cinto, traced back the forgotten history of this ruler of African descent during the Renaissance.
The event will start with the screening of Il Moro followed by a discussion with film director, Daphne Di Cinto.
About the speaker: Black Italian screenwriter, director and actor, Daphne Di Cinto is an alumni of The Actors Studio Drama School and she is in the cast of Netflix’s Bridgerton. Il Moro, her directorial debut, is now a 2024 Oscar Qualifying short film. Daphne has won the Cultured Focus Visionary in Film Award 2022 at the Venice Film Festival. She is interested in telling stories about migrations, ethnic identity and the female gaze.
