In the context of the Greek national elections, Professors Elias Dinas (SPS), George Papaconstantinou (STG), and Kalypso Nicolaidis (STG) invite the EUI community for a discussion on the topic.

The Greek national elections to be held on May 21st will take place in a political context characterised by polarisation, and in the shadow of the "eavesdropping scandal" and the recent tragic train accident. Their backdrop is an economy and society that have undergone successive economic and social crises, where fundamental weaknesses of the political and economic system and institutions remain to be addressed, and in the context of an unstable geopolitical situation in the region embedding significant risks. The election result is made all the more complicated and ambiguous by the likelihood of a hung parliament under the current proportional electoral system and by possible second elections under a new electoral system that favours the largest party. This discussion will explore these aspects and the prospects and scenarios going ahead.

The event will be open to everyone. Professor Aris Georgopoulos (University of Nottingham, Law) will also intervene in the discussion.
