In June 2023, the Commission to Investigate the Norwegianisation Policy and Injustice against the Sámi and Kvens/Norwegian Finns presented its report to the Norwegian Parliament. This talk will delve into the historical and contemporary events that precipitated the formation of this commission, the findings it has unearthed, and the roles of historians in the ongoing reconciliation process. The discussion will revolve around international and transnational dimensions to reconciliation and memorialization processes, dilemmas that may arise for historians, and the potential of this report and other efforts to reshape and reposition the conventional narratives of the history of Norway and the Arctic North.
