Join the seminar that will explore the duties that EU member states have towards each other, with respect to the protection of refugees and asylum seekers.
Taking stock of the discrepancy between the commitment to solidarity enshrined in EU law and the reality of the EU asylum system, Eleonora Milazzo develops a normative theory of justice applicable to EU asylum policies, shedding light on the meaning and value of solidarity in the context of the EU.
Drawing on her recent book Refugee Protection and Solidarity. The Duties of EU Member States (OUP, 2023), Milazzo proposes a logic of co-responsibility for thinking about why and how EU member states ought to share the costs of refugee protection. She also explores the ways in which EU member states fail to share such costs, suggesting how EU asylum policies could be brought closer to the demands of justice among states and towards refugees.
