In his book, Bouleversements: Pour Comprendre la Nouvelle Donne Mondiale (2022) , Mr François Hollande examines the period of 2012-2022 as a decade of geopolitical upheaval, culminating in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as upending the postwar international order.
In this special event, we are delighted to welcome Mr François Hollande to discuss his views and the possible courses of action for a world amid geopolitical and strategic upheaval, to include his perspectives on the state of political integration in Europe and his views on the current leadership in France and other European countries.
In addition to his keynote speech, the event will serve as an occasion for a dialogue with a panel of students, fellows and researchers from the EUI community, as well as the broader public (via an open Q&A from the live audience).
François Hollande served as President of France from 2012 to 2017. He is a graduate of HEC Paris and Sciences Po, the Paris Institute of Political Studies, and graduated from the French National School of Administration (ENA) "Voltaire Year" in 1980. Prior to his presidency, he was First Secretary of the Socialist Party (PS) from 1997 to 2008, Mayor of Tulle from 2001 to 2008, as well as President of the General Council of Corrèze from 2008 to 2012. Hollande also held the first constituency of Corrèze seat in the National Assembly twice, from 1988 to 1993 and again from 1997 until 2012.
The event will be held in the Elinor Ostrom room at Palazzo Buontalenti, the premises of the Florence School of Transnational Governance, EUI. The event will take place in French and English (simultaneous translation will be available). All are welcome to attend. Please register, indicating if you will attend in person or online (please note that online viewers will not be able to participate in the Q&A).
Following the public event, there will be an occasion for the French EUI community to meet former President François Hollande for an informal discussion.
