This QUALIFIE session hosts a presentation by Professor Rebecca Adler-Nissen (University of Copenhagen) on participant observation in international institutions and organisations.

Ethnography and participant observation are increasingly popular in Political Science and International Relations. Researchers interested in topics such as diplomacy, European integration and migration management have generated important insights on the social practices of politics through ethnographic work in international institutions and organisations.

However, how does one actually do ethnography in these high-level organisational environments? In this Qualifie session, we invite Rebecca Adler-Nissen, well-known for her work on practice theory, stigma and diplomacy, to give a talk on participant observation in international institutions and organisations.

About the speaker:

Rebecca Adler-Nissen is Professor at the Department of Political Science, University of Copenhagen where she obtained her PhD in 2009. Her research has contributed to debates in International Relations and International Political Sociology, covering topics such as diplomacy, technologies, social media and sovereignty. Rebecca is also former Head of Section in the Department of European Policy at the Danish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and has previously held visiting research positions at the Centre for International Security Studies (University of Sydney), Centre for International Peace and Security Studies (McGill University) and the European University Institute.

The Zoom link will be shared upon registration.
