This workshop aims to provide concepts, principles, methods, techniques, and normative guidelines meant to support law-abiding computations in the autonomous driving domain. It aims to attract participants from various disciplines, particularly from Computer Science, Law, and Philosophy. The presentations should be of interest to researchers who apply knowledge representation and reasoning to law, particularly as it bears on autonomous systems.

Join the workshop on Computational Law for Autonomous Cars (CLAC), a two-day hybrid event exploring legal and liability concepts in the context of autonomous vehicles. Organised as part of the ERC funded project 'CompuLaw: Governance of Computational Entities through an Integrated Legal and Technical Framework', this workshop will be held on the 4th and 5th of July 2024 at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy.

Themes and topics:

  • Legal and liability concepts and issues.
  • Allocation of responsibility for rule violations and liability to sanctions.
  • Interface between legal/normative rules and code.
  • Ethical and deontic norms.
  • Extracting legal norms from source and expressing them in code.
  • Verification and validation of rule bases.
  • Cognitive models of compliance with norms.
  • Meaningful human control.

Scientific Organiser(s):

Prof Giovanni Sartor (Professor, EUI Law Department)

Adam Wyner (University of Swansea)

Paola Aurucci (University of Bologna)

Galileo Sartor (University of Turin)
