This event will focus on discussing regulation of CO2 emissions. Governments are increasingly concerned about the environmental impact of doing business in the global economy. Yet, there is no international consensus over how to measure – or how to address – these 'social costs', especially when it comes to the cost of greenhouse emissions. Therefore, governments adopt different approaches, which leads to uncertainty in the market, and which limits global cooperation on vital issues, including addressing climate change.
In this policy discussion, participants will discuss different regulatory models around the world, with an emphasis on Europe and the United States towards identifying concrete researchable questions with policy impact. By adopting a comparative approach, the participants will try to map the regulatory landscape and come with suggestions for regulating the social cost of CO2 and other.
