Hall, Krupp Foundation Professor of European Studies at Harvard University, as he discusses his recent research on the rise and fall of growth regimes This seminar presentation aims to better understand the dramatic changes in the political economies of the developed democracies that have occurred since 1945 and the forces lying behind them. In his research, Professor Peter A. Hall analyses the changes in terms of a specific concept of ‘growth regimes’ built on the interactions between firm strategies and government policies. The research also explores the role that evolving ‘representation regimes’ in the electoral arena play in this movement. The result is a portrait of evolution from an era of modernisation, through an era of liberalisation, to an era of knowledge-based growth based on the interaction between capitalism and democracy.
