The STG Talks, held weekly at the Florence School of Transnational Governance, serve as a space for discussion for the entire EUI community. Led by the Policy Leader Fellows, the Talks are a place for informal learning and exchange on global issues affecting different areas of policymaking.
The European Pillar of Social Rights, proclaimed in 2017 at the Gothenburg Summit, sets out twenty key principles in the fields of labour markets and social protection to build a fairer and more inclusive Europe. The EU-wide social support to workers during the COVID-19 crisis and the provision of temporary protection to more than 4 million people fleeing from Ukraine constitute concrete examples of solidarity beyond borders.
In April 2024, the commitment to building a strong social Europe was reaffirmed in the La Hulpe Declaration. The declaration called for mainstreaming the European Pillar of Social Rights into relevant policies and for its consideration in the EU's external actions, including in neighboring countries.
Participants joining this STG Talk will engage in a conversation to explore the relationship between social welfare and migration in the context of the European Pillar of Social Rights and the EU's external action.
