Led by the Policy Leader Fellows, the Talks are a place for informal learning and exchange on global issues affecting different areas of policymaking. At COP28 in 2023, 117 countries agreed to meet the International Energy Agency's (IEA) recommendation to triple global renewable energy capacity by 2030. The challenge now is to translate this ambition into action for all countries. The talk will present a case study of Airbus in China to illustrate the potential for the private sector to accelerate the process of policy making towards renewable energy generating and trading. Additionally, the talk will create a dialogue on what role the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) industry could play in global climate policymaking. The two panelists will touch on the dimension of the subsidy investigation conducted by the EU regarding Chinese EV subsidies and risks associated with Chinese EVs for the EU’s competitiveness in a geopolitical context. Chinese EVs’ obstacles faced in the entire supply chain and the potential global strategies that Chinese EV makers might adopt in the near future will also be discussed.Speakers: Guo Jing (Catherine), Policy Leader Fellow, STGSushila Pandit, Policy Leader Fellow, STGAlexandros Lymperopoulos, Researcher, Department of LawPeizhe Li, MA Student, STGThis event will be held in-person only.
