Join Alejandro Chehtman and Sergio Puig as they discuss their book (co-authored with A. Huneeus), 'Latin American International Law in the twenty-first century'.

The book examines Latin America’s role as a centre of groundbreaking international law developments since colonial times. Once deeply influenced by US political and economic power, the region now stands at a crossroads in a shifting global order. As international relations evolve, scholars and practitioners are assessing how these transformations will reshape international law in Latin America.

Covering a diverse range of topics, the book addresses contemporary issues such as environmental regulation, internet governance, Indigenous rights, LGBTIQ rights, and public health. It also revisits longstanding themes including law and development, the doctrine of non-intervention, human rights, and jurisdictional disputes in post-colonial Spain.

During this event, Professor Chehtman will focus on his chapter, Through the Cracks: The Birth of Anti-Impunity in Latin America, which examines the rise of anti-impunity movements in the region. Professor Puig will introduce the project, discussing the rise of multidisciplinary approaches in international law and international relations.

This event is part of the RSC Seminar Series and the Conversations on Latin American International Law Series.
