Join Valentina Vadi for this session as she discusses the growing interest in the history of international economic law.

Once considered an exotic and highly specialised domain, international economic law is now becoming mainstream. Regulation of the field has become a key area of international law due to the rise of international trade and foreign direct investments and the policy challenges this poses. Therefore, scholarly work on international economic law has boomed in past decades. In parallel, in recent years, international lawyers and legal historians have started a promising dialogue in investigating international legal history. In light of the increasing global economic interdependence and the growing tension between state sovereignty and international economic exchanges, it is crucial to examine how this interaction has historically occurred.

Valentina Vadi is a Jean Monnet Fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies and an Adjunct Professor of Law at the School of Political Sciences of the University of Florence.
