This roundtable aims to explore and enhance Africa's geopolitical agency in a rapidly changing global landscape. The initiative marks the EUI's third consecutive outreach event in Africa, following successful editions in Uganda and Ghana. Organised within the framework of the Young African Leaders Programme, the event builds on the unique expertise of both the EUI and ISS in geopolitics from European and African perspectives.
In the one-day hybrid roundtable senior policymakers from Southern African countries, including diplomats, academics, African Union (AU) officials, civil society members, and representatives from European Union (EU) delegations will exchange views on ongoing and emerging geopolitical trends. They will analyse the implications of these developments on Africa's relationships with Europe and the rest of the world and explore policy options to promote and consolidate the continent's geopolitical agency.
To complement the programme, an in-person executive training course set for 13 November 2024, will enhance the skills of young leaders and emerging experts in foresight and scenario-building. Designed for the next generation of African leaders, the training will equip participants with practical tools to navigate and shape the continent’s geopolitical future.
During the event, participants will have the opportunity to connect with policymakers, EUI and ISS leadership, and aspiring professionals fostering meaningful connections that can drive future collaborations and initiatives.
Participation in the roundtable is upon invitation only.
