However, the new EU policy cycle that is about to start is confronted with a new reality: two wars at its doorstep and increasing trade frictions. This puts the implementation of many of the Green Deal policies in a new perspective. Two issues will be central. First is the position of the EU’s emerging clean tech industry as well as the traditional industrial sectors for example in the field of steel and chemicals. A massive amount of investments needs to be triggered and the role of energy prices will undoubtedly play a major role in this. Moreover, the affordability of many climate policies comes to the forefront and will play a major role in political debates at the EU level but even more so in the Member States.Opening Remarks by:George Papakonstantinou, Acting Director, School of Transnational Governance, EUIPresentation by:Jos Delbeke, EIB Climate Chair, Florence School of Transnational Governance, EUIPanel:Joanna Pandera, Part-time Professor, Florence School of Transnational Governance, EUISimone Tagliapietra, Part-time Professor, Florence School of Transnational Governance, EUIThis is an in person event only.
