This event is organised by the Material and Visual History Working Group and the Science and Medicine History Working Group.

The Museum of Natural History, La Specola, reopened in February 2024 after four years of refurbishment. It is the first natural history museum ever opened to the public in Europe, and we will have a unique opportunity at the EUI to host the team that manage it and carried out this great renovation. Their directors, Lucilla Conigliello and Annamaria Nistri, and three curators will discuss the challenges of displaying scientific and natural items (animals, plants, minerals, anatomical waxes, etc.) in the 21st century and in such a historical building. They will also give us some insights into the different collections and their daily tasks (displaying, curating and researching) to help us understand, especially during the Q&A, how we can rely on such museums, materials and curators’ knowledge to support our own research inquiries.

Please register to get a seat.
