The Human and Fundamental Rights Working Group hosts a presentation with Tetyana Krupiy (Newcastle University).

The Human and Fundamental Rights Working Group welcomes Tanya Krupiy to present her co-authored article with EUI Law Professor Martin Scheinin: Disability Discrimination in the Digital Realm: How the ICRPD Applies to Artificial Intelligence Decision-Making Processes and Helps in Determining the State of International Human Rights Law.

Abstract:

Scholars have identified challenges to protecting individuals from discrimination in contexts where organisations deploy artificial intelligence decision-making processes. The presentation will discuss that it is possible to derive a number of obligations on states from the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. These obligations are specific to the context of organisations employing artificial intelligence decision-making processes. Such obligations entail creating a set of rights that are tailored to the digital context.

About the speaker:

Tanya Krupiy is a Lecturer in Digital Law, Policy & Society at Newcastle Las School. She holds a Master of Laws with distinction in public international law from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and gained a Doctor of Philosophy in law from the University of Essex. She has expertise in artificial intelligence, robotic and digital technologies, and enjoys carrying out interdisciplinary research.
