Based on Scott L. Cummings, Lilla Farkas, and Venera Protopapa’s article on 'Strategic Litigation' the event will examine the rise and reaction against strategic litigation as a tool of democratic governance in Europe, focusing on its development in Central and Eastern Europe before the European Court of Human Rights. It sheds light on the dynamics of strategic litigation and its contestation. The discussion will address the development of strategic litigation in the East as a product of interest convergence between global and local actors advancing democratisation. Moreover, we will tackle strategic litigation’s contribution to legal mobilisation in Europe.
