How can leaders today work across institutions, sectors, and national borders to create lasting change?

In an era of growing complexity, polarisation, and global interdependence, leadership is no longer just about command and control—it’s about collaboration, shared responsibility, and bridging divides.

Join Anne-Marie Slaughter, renowned scholar, author, and former Director of Policy Planning at the U.S. State Department, and Rogan Kersh, NYU Florence Campus Director and leadership expert, for an engaging discussion on collaborative leadership—a model that prioritises teamwork, trust, and inclusion.

The discussion will explore:

  • How collaborative leadership differs from traditional leadership models;
  • Why cooperation is essential for solving today’s most pressing challenges, from political polarisation in the U.S. to global crises like climate change and AI governance;
  • Strategies for fostering diverse, high-functioning teams in academia, business, and government;
  • The role of higher education in shaping future leaders who can navigate complexity with agility and empathy.

This event offers a unique opportunity to engage in a thought-provoking dialogue with two distinguished experts and gain practical tools for leading effectively in a rapidly changing environment.

Prof. Anne-Marie Slaughter is a global leader, scholar and public commentator. She is currently CEO of New America, a think and action tank dedicated to renewing the promise of America in a period of rapid demographic, technological, and global change. She previously served as a professor of international, foreign, and comparative law at Harvard Law School; dean of the School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University; and as the first woman director of policy planning for the United States Department of State.

Prof. Rogan Kersh is Academic Director of NYU Florence and Associate Vice Chancellor of NYU’s global programs. He was academic dean at NYU’s Wagner School of Public Service from 2006-2012, then spent a decade as Provost and Distinguished University Professor of politics & international affairs at Wake Forest University. His research focuses on the ‘rising generation’ of young (teens/20s) college-educated Americans, on food politics & policy and public health more broadly, and on US/EU relations.

We encourage in-person participation. Register your interest to join us on campus.
