On the first day, the conference offers a theoretical exploration of complicity and responsibility in academia and beyond. On the backdrop of these discussions, on the second day we will examine how academics and institutions may be complicit in genocide, human-rights violations, and environmental harm, but also be complicit in forms of resistance, and how we can navigate responsibility in a world of complex collaborations.
The conference challenges participants to rethink belonging, accountability, and the role of law beyond clear legal frameworks. By examining funding, partnerships, tools and scientific activities, the conference encourages deeper reflection on academia's societal impact. Ultimately, it aims to move past binary narratives and toward a more nuanced understanding of ethical academic engagement.
Please note that the conference will be held in a hybrid format at Palazzo Buontalenti, Maartti Ahtisaari Peace Hall, Florence, and online via Zoom.
