For this Qualifie session, we are delighted to welcome Sarah Kunz for a talk on multi-sited ethnographic approaches in migration studies and beyond, drawing on her research in Nairobi, the Expatriate Archive Centre and International Human Resource Management literature. Inspired by multi-sited projects that 'follow-the-thing', Sarah followed the socio-political category of 'expatriate' across cities, archives, academic literatures and through in-depth exchanges and talks with contemporary 'expats' and those who work and socialise with them. In this session, she will share her experiences doing research over multiple and diverse sites and discuss the challenges and analytical possibilities of following social categories.
Speaker:
Dr. Sarah Kunz is a sociologist and migration scholar specialising in critical mobility studies, expatriate migration, and the politics of privilege. She is the author of 'Expatriate: Following a migration category (2023)', which critically examines the concept of the 'expatriate' and its role in shaping contemporary migration discourses. Sarah has held academic positions at the University of Essex, the University of Bristol and has contributed widely to debates on migration, postcolonial legacies and transnationalism.
The Zoom link will be shared upon registration.
