The integration of generative AI (Gen AI) into judicial systems has raised important questions about its impact on legal proceedings and court efficiency.
This study investigates whether the adoption of Gen AI has led to an increase in the number of cases filed and judgements rendered. Through a comparative analysis across jurisdictions, it focuses on courts that have implemented AI-assisted legal tools, examining their effect on case volume and judicial output. The study hypothesises that Gen AI contributes to an increase in filed cases by improving access to legal resources and automating document processing (H1).
Alternative explanations—such as a general rise in disputes, an expanded judicial workforce, or improved procedural design—are also considered. Drawing on publicly available court records, legal databases, and administrative reports, the study uses statistical analysis to assess trends before and after AI implementation. The findings aim to clarify whether Gen AI enhances judicial efficiency and access to justice, or reflects broader systemic changes.
