In an era marked by geopolitical fragmentation, economic unpredictability, and rapid regulatory transformation, the ability to anticipate and manage political risk is no longer optional: it is essential. From geopolitical conflicts to the regulation of artificial intelligence and climate finance, senior corporate leaders are facing growing complexity in a politicised global economy.

“No corporate strategy can afford to ignore political risk” summarised Tommaso Nannicini, Programme Director and Professor of the Florence School of Transnational Governance (STG). To address these challenges, the Florence STG of the European University Institute (EUI) and SDA Bocconi School of Management have joined forces to deliver their second edition of the executive training course “Global Risk Management: Geopolitical and Regulatory Risk in a Politicised Global Economy”.

Now open for applications, the programme will run from 3 to 7 November 2025 at Palazzo Buontalenti, in Florence. Following the successful first edition in Rome, which attracted participants from international banks and multinational companies, the course returns with a strengthened curriculum and new case studies tailored to leaders navigating political uncertainty.

Structured over four days, the programme will combine lectures, case studies, workshops, and simulations, culminating in actionable insights for participants and their companies.

In particular, participants will explore four thematic pillars:

  1. Political risk analysis: definitions, methods, and corporate strategic response
  2. Geopolitics and geoeconomics: implications for global and national economies
  3. Technology, energy, money, and power: the political economy of global regulation
  4. Dealing with uncertainty: corporate strategies in a politicised global environment

The training course is designed for senior corporate executives, particularly those at VP or C-suite level, who require strategic foresight, resilience, and essential tools to guide their organisations and manage political risk.

As explained by Carlo Altomonte, Programme Director together with Tommaso and Associate Professor of Economics at SDA Bocconi “Navigating global risks requires foresight and adaptability embedded in a company’s strategy. Companies must diversify supply chains, prepare for inflation, and embrace strategic security.”

Together with the programme directors, the sessions will be delivered by distinguished experts from both partner institutions. Participants will also benefit from keynotes and teaching by internationally recognised scholars and practitioners, including Former EU Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni, alongside leading EUI faculty such as Nathalie Tocci, George Papaconstantinou, Erik Jones, Oksana Antonenko, Patryk Pawlak, Fabrizio Tassinari, Kristin Fabbe, and Valbona Zeneli.
