The partnership, signed by EUI President Patrizia Nanz and KHI Director Gerhard Wolf, will aim to boost academic collaboration between the two institutions based in Florence.

KHI is a leading research institute specialising in the histories of art and architecture, with a global and transcultural perspective.

Through this agreement, the EUI and KHI will collaborate on joint initiatives with a focus on research, education, and knowledge exchange. The key activities of involvement include: the development of exchange programmes for doctoral and post-doctoral researchers, particularly in the field of history; the joint organisation of workshops, conferences, and research projects; and the exchange of publications, teaching materials, and related research outputs.

The EUI Library actively supported and facilitated this partnership, underscoring its commitment to fostering interdisciplinary research and providing robust support for academic collaboration amongst two international research institutions based in Florence.

As part of the five-year agreement, both libraries at the EUI and KHI will take steps to facilitate access to their premises and study areas for graduate students, researchers, academics, and administrative staff, enabling on-site consultations and professional exchanges. Indeed, a central aspect of the partnership is mutual access to their extensive collections, with the EUI Library focusing on social sciences and humanities, and the KHI Library with its renowned photo library specialising in history, art history, architecture, European history, visual culture, media, and fashion.

This collaboration builds on a longstanding history of cooperation between the EUI and KHI, committed to addressing critical global challenges such as sustainability and digital transformation. In this mission, both institutions aim to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, enhance academic exchange, and advance their shared vision of supporting young scholars and fostering innovation in research and education. The EUI is very keen of this partnership that complements similar collaborations established with other institutes of the Max Planck Society.

Any further information on this partnership may be obtained from the EUI External Relations.
